The name “Hvitserkur” translates to “white shirt” in Icelandic and is said to refer to the white color of the bird droppings that cover the top of the rock. However, some people also say that the name comes from an old Icelandic myth about a troll who was caught by the sunlight while trying to pull a ship to shore, turning him into the rock formation we see today.
Hvitserkur is located in the Vatnsnes Peninsula and is accessible by car, with a short hike required to reach the base of the rock. Visitors can view the formation from the shore or take a closer look by walking out to the base of the rock during low tide. The site also offers opportunities for bird watching, with many seabirds nesting in the surrounding cliffs.
